Obituary of Alan Dean Lambert, Sr.

Alan Dean Lambert, Sr., age 70, of Little Creek, passed Friday September 29, 2023. He was born in Ceres Halloween night 1952 the son of the late Stephen G. and Ollie Bell Perky Lambert. His family moved to Stoney Fork area of Wythe County as a child Dark Horse Hollow became one of his favorite playgrounds. The great grandson of Bland County “Walking Jim Lambert”, Alan was a warrior in these mountains, he hunted hundreds of deer, and his favorite sweet spot was Wythe Co’s Griffeys Knob overlooking the seven sisters. He was a hardworking man and had many ties to this area. His first job was at the Big Walker Lookout at age 14. As a teen he learned masonry skills and helped on construction projects. He laid stone at the Rock House Museum, helped with the construction of both Big Walker and East River Tunnels on I 77. Alan enjoyed fishing, playing cards, cold beer, and he was a horseshoe champion. He was charming, funny, and sweet but also never once let anyone disrespect him or his people. He was a provider, fighter, and a protector. Alan will be missed dearly. Alan was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lambert, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Lambert of Wytheville; sons and daughter-in-law, Alan Jr. and Nancy Lambert of Max Meadows, Clinton Paul Lambert of Little Creek; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Becky Lambert of Max Meadows, David and Marie Lambert of Bland; grandchildren, Aislinn Lambert, Jonathan Lambert, Konard Holbrook, Matthew Sisk, William Sisk; great granddaughter, Abbigail Rose Lambert; several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be held 7 P.M. Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Reverend Sam Shupe. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 5 P.M. until service time.
