Greg Hash was a great person. Did not hang out with him or play football or any of the things most people did in high school, but Greg was always kind to me, never treated me any different than his best friends. His passing will leave a hole in the Class of 1984 of Rural Retreat High School. Those memories will always be very vivid to me and i am honored to have been lucky enough to have known him. Godspeed Gregory .
Hugs Love and Prayers,
Gregory Allen Jones

Greg was a part of my life for many years and continued to be on the outskirts because of Meghan and Tyler. Even though we didn't talk anymore, I saw him one day in Rural King after his diagnosis. He asked about my family, I asked about him. Before we parted ways, I asked if I could give him a hug; he said yes. I will always remember Greg through Meghan and Tyler and Kamryn and Declan. My deepest sympathies to Cheryl and the rest of the Hash family. Greg will be missed.

I will always remember Greg Hash as one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever met. It’s been nearly two decades since his restaurant, Duke’s BBQ, was one of the top eateries in the county. It was my personal favorite. I used to eat there at least once a week. He had the best cheeseburgers in town. They were a secret recipe, of course, but I loved them. I remember Greg always teasing me for ordering the same thing every time I came.
“Aren’t you ever going to try anything new?” he was always asking me.
However, it was my habit to stick with a favorite in any restaurant once I found it. To be fair, though, he made a great hot dog, too.
I remember writing a review for him in 2007, praising all the wonderful food and service I received at Duke’s. He was so proud of it that he framed a copy of it in the restaurant next to my photo and had me sign it. That made me feel so good. Another very humbling moment was when he presented me with a Duke’s BBQ shirt.
“You’re one of our biggest fans and we want you to have this,” he told me.
Anytime he would come up with a new menu item, such as a chocolate whoopie pie, he would bring it to me to try. I remember bringing my dad there for many Saturday morning breakfasts as well. Greg could cook anything and eggs and bacon were not out of his area of expertise. However, the exorbitant rent forced him to close by 2009 and Italian Garden moved into his location. I was devastated. It truly felt like the end of an era for me.
I’ll never forget how honored I felt when she invited me to her birthday party years ago, which brought me to Greg’s house in Rural Retreat. I rarely got invited to such things and it was an unforgettable evening of laughter and fun. I felt like part of a very wonderful crew. Greg and his lovely wife Cheryl were so accommodating. After that, Greg made sure to let me know I was welcome there anytime.
“You don’t have to wait on Meghan and Tyler to invite you,” he told me.
While I sadly never made it back, I kept up with Greg through Facebook, watching the joy his beautiful grandchildren have given him. I was also devastated to learn that this man, who had blessed the lives of so many, had become a victim to cancer, one of the cruelest diseases in the world. It was no surprise to me to witness the courage he has displayed during his terrible battle. . I am heartbroken that I will never be able to give back all that Greg Hash has given me throughout the years, but I pray he knows all the love and friendship he has offered is reciprocated in full force. The same goes for my dear friends Peggy, Tyler, Meghan, and Cheryl. They have all enriched my life more than they will ever know.

Greg was an amazing man. Got to know him as my son's wife. I will choose to celebrate the great friend and family man he was. He will be missed. Blessings to those who will have to learn to live without him.
