Obituary of Edward Talmadge Sharitz

Edward Talmadge Sharitz age 87, of Wytheville, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. He was born in Virginia on November 11, 1936 to the late DeWitt Talmadge and Alice Pearl Hutchinson Sharitz. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda and Gene Jones, and a niece Wanda Jones Matthews. Talmadge was a member of the United Mine Workers of America; and served in the United States Army. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Geraldine “Gerry” Haga Sharitz; daughter, Tammy S. Sharitz; great nephews, Chad and Mark Matthews; Special cousin, “Tug” Clemons and family all of Wytheville. Funeral services will be held at 7 P.M. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Grubb Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Mack Taylor and Pastor Paige Wimberly officiating. Graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday with the American Legion Post #9 conducting military rites at the Fairview Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday at the Grubb Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Music Fund – 200 Mount Pleasant Drive – Wytheville, VA 24382 or to the American Heart Association.
