I was a student of Ms Polly at FCHS. I never took homemaker. I had to take 1 last class my senior yr. Art or Ms Polly. I didn't know how to sew but our guidance counselor assured me no sewing. 1st class here comes I'm 5'10 so TINY Ms Miller. Introduces & says with excitement were sewing a skirt for our yr project. I just said I can't sew & was told I didn't have to for this class. She had the sewing machine, fabric. Thread & all ready convinced she was gonna make me sew. We go to the guidance counselor & she tells him what the skills needed for her class. HE looked at ea class performance skills needed & he said well it don't show it so can't we do something else. Cook crafts I said crafts. I thought well I've made a teacher mad & that wasn't like me but I wanted to be a RN & wouldn't have to sew or just barely cook. That turned out to be 1 of my best classes & I found her to be so caring guidance & thankfully patient. We barely made what tasted more like pie crust than it looked, a beautiful wreath that I still have & many more I've made for the stress of nursing. We ran into each other thru the yrs but after I was married & a had child I ran into her she asked right off the bar again can you sew??? Me laughing half crying saying Good golly Ms Polly I sure wish I had let you teach me to sew a a much much better cook!!!! She laughed & over the yrs I loved her as a teacher but I gained a real friend/guidance who learned as much about doing something you never intended to do & her learning she was a better teacher if she let the students be a part of their education. Oohh guess who took home a honor jacket letter for that yrs class.....the one who still can't sew!!! Thoughts & prayers for Ms Pollys family, friends, & the many students shw loved & taught through the years!
