Obituary of Glaydese Johnson Rider

Glaydese Johnson Rider age 95, of Wytheville, passed away on Sunday March 10, 2024. She was born on December 8, 1928 in Wythe County to the late Melvin Reece and Gaye Liddius Crockett Johnson. Glaydese was a Registered Nurse having served at Malin’s Hospital and Marion Correctional, she also ran Rider’s Grocery and attended Mt Pleasant Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by five siblings, Robert Eddystone Johnson, Mildred Maynard, Dorothy Jones, Ralph Johnson and Floella Mercer. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law David and Joyce Lephew of Medina, Ohio; Frank Rider of Goodview, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Brenda Johnson of Wytheville; three grandchildren, Valerie Cline, Stacey Wertheimer (Desmond) and Russell Lephew (Samantha); great granddaughter, Madison Jo Lephew; and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the Davis Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 to 7 P.M. at the Grubb Funeral Home. Following the graveside friends are welcome to come back to Wayne and Brenda Johnson’s home at 1537 Slate Branch Rd. Wytheville, VA 34382.
