Obituary of Carl Clifford Phillips
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carl Clifford Phillips, age 79, of Wytheville. Carl was surrounded by his loved ones in Wytheville Community Hospital when he went to be with our Lord on May 12th after suffering a severe decline in his health associated with a lengthy illness.
Carl was a loving husband and devoted father and loved his family more than anything. He was a very strong, easy-going, kind, and selfless man who always put others needs ahead of his own.
Carl was a United States Army Veteran who served and loved his Country. Carl spent 40+ years building power lines and retired in 2009.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C Phillips and Eva Kincer Phillips, and his brother Bobby Phillips, all of Wytheville. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Lanter Phillips, sons Cliff Phillips and Daniel West of Wytheville, daughter Melissa Phillips Burch and son-in-law Pat Burch of Cornelius North Carolina. Sisters Linda Ruth Dixon and Tammy Primm of Wytheville, in addition to several nieces and nephews. Carl had a very special and close relationship with his nephews Danny Dixon, Dennis Dixon, and Chuck Dixon and loved them dearly.
The family is honoring Carl’s pre-established wishes, and there will be no visitation or funeral services. In lieu of flowers, please keep Carl’s family in your prayers as they grieve the loss of such a kind, loving, and wonderful man.
