Obituary of Lucy Bowen Litton

Lucy Bowen Litton, age 94, of Bland, passed away Friday, August 02, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Meek Hoge Bowen Sr. and Virgina Newberry Bowen. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Litton, Sr.; one brother, Meek Hoge Bowen, Jr. Lucy taught in Wythe and Bland County for over thirty years. She taught a variety of subjects, primarily English and home economics. Upon retirement, she enjoyed managing her beef cattle farm in Bland and caring for her parents. She loved spending time with family, traveling, and cooking. She was happiest when hosting family and friends. She frequently held large family gatherings and had a way of making everyone feel at home and loved. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Robert “Bob” W. Litton, Jr. and wife Janet, Jim and Kristen Litton, Tommy and Melinda Litton; sisters and brother-in-law, Martha McDonald, Maria Carter and Jack; brother, William “Bill” C. Bowen; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive. Graveside service will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at Newberry Oaklawn Farm Cemetery in Bland conducted by Reverend Bobby Lorton. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choosing.
