Obituary of John Dix Williams

John Dix Williams, 85, of Wytheville, VA went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2024. He passed peacefully, from the comfort of his home. John was the son of the late James E. Williams, Sr. and Janie Dix Williams. He is preceded in death by brothers, Bob and Lou Williams and sisters, Katherine “Sis” Callahan, Janie Harmon, and Bertha Underwood. John was born and raised in Wytheville, VA where he married his beloved wife of 64 years, worked and raised a family. John was a well-known farmer who loved tending to crops and cattle. He also worked as a butcher for many years and was a co-founder of Williams Meat Processing. If the sun was shining, you’d find him in the seat of a tractor, mowing hay. John loved to bake and share country ham with loved ones, and was known to man the grill for special occasions and parties. He never met a stranger and always welcomed the opportunity to help others. John’s love of farming, strong work ethic and generosity are qualities of which he will be thoroughly remembered and greatly missed. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory his wife, Dollie (Rosenbaum) Williams, his son, Robbie Williams and wife Lynn, daughters, Lynn Weatherman and husband Dwayne, Kaye Wohlford and husband Tim; brothers and wives; James “Jim” and Janie Williams of Wytheville, VA, Joe and Jeannie Williams of North Ridgeville, OH, George and Mary Ann Williams of Rural Retreat, VA; sisters, Ruby Tickle of Draper, VA, Edna Parks and husband Ricky of Wytheville, VA; sisters-in-law, Agnes Williams of Wytheville, VA, Mae Rosenbaum of Cripple Creek, VA; brother-in-law, Danny Underwood of Draper, VA; grandchildren, Dabb Wood, Zayne Williams, and Spencer Weatherman, two great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia. The family would also like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses of Blue Ridge Cancer Care for their outstanding medical care and kindness. Funeral service will be held 3 P.M. Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Reverend N.R. Taylor and Reverend Derek Cowan with interment to follow in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Cripple Creek, VA. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Grubb Funeral Home from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M.
