Obituary of Mason William Waddell

Mason William Waddell, 85, of Ashland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Mason was born February 21, 1939, in Wytheville, Virginia to the late Ira Francis Waddell and Mary Edith Eastwood Waddell Mason retired from Ashland Oil/Valvoline as a Supply and Distribution manager. He was a man of great integrity and had a strong work ethic, which he passed on to his daughters. Mason's love for sports, especially UK Basketball, was infectious. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fantasy football, and all kinds of sports. He was known to all of his extended family at the KDMC Vitality Center as the “Godfather” of the Vitality Center. In addition to his parents, Mason was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Donna Jean Wagner Waddell, several months ago; siblings John Waddell, Ira Waddell, and Martha Williams; and his twin sister, Edna Bass. Survivors include his daughters and their husbands, who Mason thought of as his sons, Donnita Stephens (Rodney) of Walton, KY, and Melissa Lambert (Mike) of Catlettsburg; one sister, Mary Hancock of Wytheville, VA; four grandchildren, Taylor Bentley (Ridge), Megan Adkins, Mason Lambert (Maddie), and Levi Robinson; four great-grandchildren, Tycen Bentley, Addy Bentley, Cash Bentley, and Rowynn Bentley, along with several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. The family is deeply grateful to Jim Nichols, Dave Daniels, and the deacons and members of the church, as well as Donnie and Barbara Rigsby, for the loving care they provided over the length of his illness. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Flatwoods First Baptist Church, with Pastor Jim Nichols and Brother Dave Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park, Ashland. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:30 until service time at the church. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a source of comfort and strength.
