Obituary of Alice Marie McKnight Kelley
Alice Marie McKnight Kelley died Monday, March 6, 2017, at the home of her daughter, Rebecca Kelley Lowry, in Clemmons, N. C.
Alice was born March 29, 1921, in Guilford County, N. C., the daughter of Tom E. A. McKnight and Mary Ann Evans McKnight. She attended Woman’s College in Greensboro, N. C. and graduated in 1944 from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, N. C.
In 1945 Alice married Joseph Crockett Kelley and moved to Wythe County, Va., where she lived for 70 years, as housewife, mother of three, registered nurse, and faithful member of Wytheville Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Crockett Kelley, Sr.; her parents; two sisters, Katharine McKnight Thompson and Margaret McKnight Ross; and one brother, Thomas E. McKnight.
She is survived by daughters Ann Kelley Holler and husband Pete of Bristol, Tenn.; Rebecca Kelley Lowry and husband Bill of Clemmons, N. C., and son Joseph Kelley, Jr. and wife Wendy of Blacksburg, Va. Alice leaves five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Two sisters also survive, Doris McKnight and Nancy McKnight Donnelly of Greensboro, N. C.
Family members will greet visitors in the Hatcher Hall of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church on Friday, March 10, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 1:00 p.m., at the Wytheville Presbyterian Church, 285 Church Street, Wytheville, Va.
Following the service, burial will take place in the cemetery of Drapers Valley Presbyterian Church, 2755 Old Baltimore Road, Draper, Va.
