Obituary of Patricia Rohm Bloomer
Patricia Rohm Bloomer, 85, went to be with her Lord on December 20th, 2024. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Dr. Robert Franklin Rohm and Marion Virginia Rohm. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cornell University where she studied English and learned to find joy in a good book. She was an avid reader and an engaging storyteller with a vocabulary that reflected her bright mind.
Pat met her husband, John, in upstate NY, where they married and bought a farm in Burdett, NY. She shepherded flocks of sheep and goats, earning the beloved name of “Gramma Sheep”. As the glue of her family, she nurtured generations to appreciate God’s creation and all his creatures. Memories of her walking the laneway and caring for her animals fill our hearts as we remember her days on Windsong Farm.
Pat was beloved by her family and friends who were blessed by her generosity and hospitality. She regularly welcomed people into her home and heart, and radiated joy and positivity to all she met. Since her first pony as a young girl, Pat had a lifelong love of horses. Throughout her life, and into her eighties, many others had the privilege of joining her on the trails where her joy overflowed.
Pat was very involved in her community. She was active in her church Bible study, neighborhood pickleball, and was a longtime supporter of the Young Life Ministry in Wythe County, VA.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John D. Bloomer, her siblings; Carol Minnerly (Dave Beeson) and Robert F. Rohm (Kathy), her children; Lynn Schmitt (Steve), Lee Dresser (Laurie), Cindy Woodford (Craig), her step children; Danica Sawtelle (Chris), John Paul Bloomer (Lisa) and Robert S.Bloomer, along with 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren who adore her. She will be forever treasured by her family and many friends.
To celebrate her life, there will be a memorial service at Sunny Hills Church in Wytheville, VA, on January 25th at 12:00pm. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the church on the same day. She will be laid to rest later in the Spring, near her childhood home in Chautauqua, NY. May God receive glory for his love and faithfulness to Pat.
