Obituary of Walter Thomas Sult, Jr.
Walter Thomas (Tom) Sult, Jr., age 86, of Wytheville passed away on Saturday, March 25, in Richmond, Virginia with his family surrounding him. In the past months, he fought a brave battle with lung cancer. Tom was born in Port Allen, Louisiana on September 20, 1930 to the late Walter T. Sult, Sr. and the late Laura Robinson Sult.
Preceding him in death were his wife Betty Wampler Sult and parents-in-law, John and Frances Wampler of Crockett, Virginia. He is survived by his three daughters, Becky Sult Camache and husband Jim of Richmond, VA, Vicky Sult of Alexandria, VA, and Kathy Sult Lacy and husband Bob of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by granddaughters, Dr. Kathryn Lacy of Timonium, MD, and Anna Lacy of Richmond, VA. In addition, he is survived by his brother Erroll C. Sult, Sr. of Kannapolis, NC, sisters Joyce S. Holton of Winston Salem, NC, and Rose S. Weaver and husband Jack of Rural Retreat, VA; two nieces and two nephews and their families also survive.
Tom was employed by Richardson-Wayland Electrical Corporation for 40 years. Upon his retirement in 1993, he enjoyed farming for the next 22 years. Tom grew up in Crockett, VA, and graduated from Rural Retreat High School in 1949. After high school he enlisted in the Army in July 1949 and served in the 862nd Engineer Aviation Battalion stationed in Europe. Honorably discharged from the Army in September 1952, he returned to Crockett, VA until he married and moved to Wytheville.
Funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, March 31, 2017 at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Grubb Funeral Home from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M.
