Obituary of James Theodoria Black
James Theodoria Black, age 77, of Wytheville, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, April 10, 2017. He was the son of the late Sidney & Evelyn Black of Wytheville and was preceded in death by his brother, William “Butch” Black and Sidney Black, Jr.
James was a Veteran of the United States Army and served as an SFC in the Vietnam War. He was awarded several honors including, Vietnam Service Metal with 4 Bronze Stars, Rep of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupational Medal (Berlin), DSI Ident Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry W/ Palm and good Conduct Medal. He retired from the United States Army in 1977, and began working for the U.S. Postal Service. He retired from Seattle, Washington Postal Service in 2001 after 22 years of service.
He is survived by three sisters, Pauline Black Carver, Georgia Black and Susie Patterson all of Wytheville; nieces Margaret Strokes of Roanoke, Teresa Black of Wytheville, Alexis Patterson of Los Angeles, CA; nephews, Aaron Black of Holly Springs, NC, and Ryan Black of Wytheville. He also has a host of great nieces, great nephews and a special friend Shirley Hines, Clarence Rodgers and James Butler. He also has a host of friends in the Tacoma, Washington area.
At his request, there will be no formal service but the family will receive guest at their home located at 395 East Franklin Street, Wytheville, VA 24382 at any time.
