Rose Marie Stroud Rietze
Rose Marie Stroud Rietze, formerly of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully July 24, 2017, at Carrington Place, Wytheville, VA.
She was born in Jonesville, LA, on September 4, 1922, and studied at Louisiana State University. She was married to George Rietze of Louisville, KY, from 1944 until his death in 2010. The couple lived in Monroe, LA, for ten years before moving to Louisville, KY, where they lived in St. Matthews for 55 years.
Rose was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends with her Southern cooking and hospitality. Sewing, bridge playing, and all homemaking activities were her passion. She was a member of St. Matthews Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years.
She is survived by her two children, son, Barry Rietze (Carol) of Louisville, and daughter, Anna Rietze Burns (Pat) of Wytheville, VA; four grandchildren, Chris Burns (Amanda) of Charlotte, NC, Matt Burns (Tara) of Gate City, VA, Anna Rietze Hamman (James) of Tampa, FL, and Susan Rietze Keely (Prichard) of Washington, DC; and 11 great grandchildren-C.J., Molly, Patrick, and Laney Burns; Jake and Emma Kate Burns; Jackson, Jeffrey, and Jace Hamman; Lilly and Aubrey Keely. A private burial will be held at a later date.
