Obituary of Helen Louise Gros Kuhn
Helen Louise Gros Kuhn, age 97, formerly of Manhattan, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in Wytheville, Virginia.
She was born in St. George, Kansas on October 1, 1921, daughter of Peter and Louise (Umscheid) Gros. She graduated from District High School of Union #3, Pottawatomie County, Flush, Kansas, Class of 1940.
Helen married the love of her life, Verne G. Kuhn on November 10, 1941 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Flush, Kansas. Mr. Kuhn preceded her in death on November 14, 2008. In recent years, she moved to Wytheville, Virginia to live with her son and daughter-in-law.
Helen was a dedicated Army wife, mother and homemaker. She very much enjoyed being able to travel wherever the Army stationed her family. Helen had very fond memories of their time living in Germany in the early 1950’s. She took pleasure in golf, bowling, sewing, playing cards, especially bridge and solitaire, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan, Kansas and St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Wytheville, Virginia.
In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandi Rose and her seven siblings: Ed Gros, Charlotte Patzell, Margaret Spain, Joe Gros, Ivan Gros, Duane Gros, and Cecilia O’Donnell Hecht.
Helen is survived by her son, Leland Kuhn (Andrea) of Wytheville, Virginia, a granddaughter, Kimberly Kuhn of Kansas City, Missouri, and a grandson, Joseph Kuhn (Laura) of New York City, New York.
A memorial Mass will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 21, 2019 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Manhattan, Kansas. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.grubbfuneralhome.com
