Obituary of Ruth H. Etter
Ruth Hash Etter, of Wytheville Virginia, passed away February 20, 2019 at the age of 92. Originally from Grayson County, she is the youngest and the last surviving of Isam and Minnie Bonham Hash’s four children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Herbert Vaughn “Bug” Etter, one sister Sena and John Parks of Wytheville, two brothers Coy and Madge Hash of Mouth of Wilson and Carl and Irene Hash of Marion Virginia.
She was a graduate of Oak Hill Academy. As a long-time member of West End United Methodist Church, she is remembered as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher as well as an active volunteer ready to help with any activity. For over 15 years she provided organizational work for the services. She also loved to volunteer at Wytheville’s Chautauqua Festival, town activities and at school events.
Ruth was a member, and twice Noble Grand, of the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies #57. She held numerous leadership roles and her outstanding work was awarded with the highest honor given by the Rebekah Odd Fellowship, the Declaration of Chivalry. She accepted the award at a state meeting in Roanoke Virginia. She is survived by one daughter Vonda Kay and her husband Edward Rodgers of Washington DC, nephews and nieces Curtis and Eleanor Parks, Joe Parks, Bill and Lois Hash, and Beulah Minor.
The funeral will be held at the West End United Methodist Church at 2 o’clock on Monday February 25th conducted by The Reverend Rick Lindamood. A one-hour viewing will precede the funeral from 1pm – 2pm. Burial will follow the service at the West End Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the West End United Methodist Church’s new parking lot fund at P.O. Box 867 Wytheville VA 24382.
