Obituary of Donald Miller Courtney, Sr.

Donald Miller Courtney Sr., age 86, of Wytheville, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016. He was the son of the late Ralph & Opal Tarter Courtney and was preceded in death by his wife Rachel Umberger Courtney. Donald was a United States Navy Veteran and a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Fonda & Gene Albert of Wytheville; son & daughter-in-law, Donnie & Becky Courtney of Crockett; brother & sister-in-law, Dallas & Laura Courtney of Hickory, NC;sister-in-law, JoAnn Sawyers of Wytheville; grandchildren, Carrie Courtney of Crockett, Travis & Liz Courtney of Alexandria, Paul & Leslie Weaver of Wytheville; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Weaver, Jase Weaver; many special nieces and nephews also survive Funeral service will be held at 6 P.M. Friday, May 27, 2016 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, conducted by The Reverend Amy Whatley and The Reverend Joe Mack Taylor, with the interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. American Legion Post # 9 will conduct military graveside services. The family will receive friends at the church from 3 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mt. Pleasant Music Fund, 200 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Wytheville, Va. 24382. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
