Obituary of Elbert W. Collins

Elbert W. Collins, age 97, of Wytheville, Virginia passed away Friday, June 14, 2019.  He was the son of the late Walter Harvey and Margie Spraker Collins. He was a lifetime member of Mountain View United Methodist Church and a United States Army Veteran of WWII. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Doris Maxine Collins. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Elbert Collins. Elbert is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James Walter and Emma “Susie” Collins, Franklin Ralph and Teresa Collins, all of Wytheville, Winefred Gross of Rural Retreat; Grandchildren and Spouses; Regina Alley, Kimberly Collins and Mike, Jamie and Amy Collins, Jason and Martha Collins, Joseph “Bubba” and Wendy Collins, Stacy Nunley, Tonya Cave, Christy and Brendon Jewell, Joshua Collins and Courtney Kiser, Leanne Hyler and Danny, Danelle “Nellie” and Bert Sevy, Ashley Nunley; Jacy and Ryan Austin, Sarah and Rivers Kelley; Great-Grandchildren, Scott, Jake, Jeb, Jesse, Lydia, Joseph, Josiah, Jeremiah, Landyn, Aubrey, Elias, Sawyers, Clara Kate, Acelon, Alijah, Ariana, Jamen, Caleb, Draven, Michael, Austin, Zoey, Alderson, Avery; one great grandchild, Kasen. Also surviving are lifetime friend, Pat Albert, caretaker, Chad, and loyal canine companion, “D.C.”.

Funeral service will be held 7:00 pm, Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Reverend Ted Anders, Reverend Aubrey Whitlow, and Reverend Roger Crigger. Family will receive friends, Tuesday, from 5:00 pm until service time. Interment will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, 11:00 am at Mountain View Church Cemetery. American Legion Post #229 will conduct Military graveside rites. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Smith Hollow Mountain View Cemetery fund C/O Grace Davis, 1534 Rockdale Road, Wytheville, VA 24382.
