Obituary of Martha Penley Umberger

Martha Penley Umberger, age 78 of Wytheville, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020. She was the daughter of the late John Starnes & Margaret Thompson Penley. She is survived by her husband, Ned Allen Umberger of Wytheville; step- daughter, Nanetta Umberger of Wytheville; step-son, Wade Umberger of Little Creek; sisters & brothers-in-law, Jean & David Harmon of Willis, VA, Dorothy “Dottie” & Wade Dickens of Florence, SC, Molly & Jerry Thompson of Bland; Step Grandson, Nate Aker of Fort Chiswell; step great grandchildren, Abby Aker, Nixon Aker, Aurelia Aker; several nieces and nephews also survive. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, conducted by the Reverend Ralph Kidd. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
