Our condolences to Virginia and to all of Bill’s family and friends. We know he was Willie to you, but always Bill to us. As the true southern gentleman that he was, Bill, together with several others, welcomed this northern boy who married a great Wytheville gal into their midst.
Bill and the rest of us, Frank, Chet, and Richard spent many wonderful mornings walking the green hills of the Wytheville Golf Course. We hit a few good shots, probably more bad shots, never failing to have fun. One of them was when Bill, literally, hit a shot into the 150 yard marker on the 9th hole (see the photo). On Mondays and Fridays, we never knew whether the colors and hats would be for Tech, UVA, or the Washington Redskins (or whatever they are now).
Bill was very proud of his family – we knew that when we’d ask him how they were doing. You can see the pride in the pictures in the accompanying video, showing Bill always enjoying being with Virginia and the family at so many different places. Those images will help provide the memories of the great times during this grieving period.
We are all better off because Bill passed here. He will be missed.
