Obituary of Diane Garner Winston
Diane Garner Winston, age 93, of Wytheville, Virginia passed away on July 7, 2022. She was born on December 31, 1928, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late George Hayden Garner and Vera Duke Garner. Diane got her BS in Medical technology at VCU and Medical College of Virginia. She was a true American patriot who served in WWII as a volunteer Airplane Spotter and Nurse’s Aide. She was passionate about the history of our country and those who made our freedom possible. She was active in politics for most of her life.
She raised her 4 children with her late husband William Overton Winston in Portsmouth, Virginia. The most cherished season of her life was when her children were growing up. “We had some good times,” she reminisced recently. She possessed a quiet and enduring faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Draper’s Valley Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, David C. Winston. She is survived by a son, Stephen Winston (Sandi), daughters Mary Blount (Tyler) and Rebecca Brewbaker (Bill), 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Graveside services for the family will be held at Draper’s Valley Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 10 at 1:00. A memorial service will be on Monday, July 11 at 11am at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts in memory of Diane be given to Draper’s Valley Presbyterian Church.
