Obituary of John Phillip Wisman
John Phillip (Phil) Wisman, husband, father and granddaddy died unexpectedly on September 02, 2022, in an accident while working on the creek property he adored. He was an avid lover of nature and died doing what he loved.
Phil’s witty and fun-loving personality brought joy to all those he met. He loved life and lived it to the fullest every single day. Phil had a deep love of and respect for nature and loved working outside, playing with his dogs, photographing birds, sharing his love of music, gardening and playing disc golf. Most of all, he enjoyed sharing his love of all of these things with his family and friends.
Phil was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and Virginia Tech. He loved all things Virginia Tech and was a big fan of the Hokies. He worked as a Forester for the United States Forest Service for over 30 years and traveled the country fighting forest fires as part of the Hotshot Crew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Lee Wisman and Melba Frost Wisman of Blacksburg, VA.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 42 years, Susan Wisman; his children, Brooke and Dan Delp of Wytheville, VA, Corey and Tre’ Marino of Weaverville, NC, Collin and Jessica Wisman of Radford, VA; his grandchildren Rex, Willow and Worthy Delp, Jerry and Mia Marino, Wren and Oliver Wisman; and his furry sidekicks Myka, Maddie and Molly. He is also survived by his brother Everett Lee Wisman, Jr and Vanessa M. Murphy of San Antonio, Texas and sister Grace and Lanse Carpenter of Pearisburg, VA.
