Obituary of Carolyn Jo Mathews

Carolyn “Jo” Mathews, age 75, Left her earthly home on Sunday, November 6, 2022. She is now in the arms of her heavenly family. Jo was a 1965 graduate of George Wythe High School. She was a past employee of Aeroquip, Alco Controls, Family Physicians, and retired after many years at BB&T. She loved her co-workers and was devoted employee and friend, to many who knew her as “Jo”. She was the daughter of the late Marion H. Mathews and Barbara Hall Mathews. She was also preceded by her brother, David Richard “Dickie” Mathews. Carolyn was a loving mother and grandmother. Carolyn is survived by her son Thomas “Tommy” Hundley (Annessia) and stepdaughter, Cori Rupe; daughter, Jennifer Jo Alley (Michael); two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vicki and Rudy Aker of Wytheville; Faith “Donni” and John Rose of Virginia Beach; brother and sister-in-law, Larry R. and Debra Mathews of Cleveland; many nieces and nephews also survive. Her greatest loves were her three grandsons, Kyle Alley (Maggie); Colton Alley and Ayden Hundley. Her favorite times were spent with her “Sunshines” and “Pride & Joys”. Whether it was being their biggest fan at their soccer games or walking with them on her favorite beach, their Nana “loved them the biggest”. Graveside service will be held 2 P.M. Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the West End Cemetery with the Reverend J.R. Gilman officiating. Per Jo’s request there will be no visitation.
