Obituary of Scott Craig DeHart
There has been a great disturbance in the Force. Scott Craig DeHart, age 66, of Rocky Gap, one of the original science fiction fans whose influence has affected multiple generations of local nerd brethren shed his mortal coil on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Scott was born October 11, 1956, to the late Richard Franklin DeHart & Bobbie Jo Hutchinson Tolbert.
Scott was a computer programmer before IT was ever an acronym. He worked with his family in the pharmaceutical industry for both GIV and for Niftus. More recently, you would find Scott greeting guests, answering phones, and otherwise bringing his light to those visiting the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre in Wytheville as he worked in its box office.
Scott was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of an array of subjects. He read voraciously, loved cinema, and was a passionate learner. He enjoyed conversation and engaging with people. He was clever, he was personable, and he will be remembered as a unique individual.
Left to remember Scott fondly are his son & daughter-in-law, Chris DeHart & Melanie Hanshew of Rocky Gap, and his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica DeHart & James “Jake” Prescott Lewis of Wytheville. Two grandsons also survive him, Talon Boniface of Marion and Oscar Lewis (aged 4 weeks) of Wytheville. Additional family members include his brother, Richard DeHart, Patrick & Sheri Sutphin, and Eden & Brandon Speer.
Graveside service will be held 11 A.M. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Temple Hill Cemetery in Bland. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.grubbfuneralhome.com
