Obituary of Laura Surratt Halsey

Laura Surratt Halsey, age 96, of Wytheville, went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 7, 2023. She said it would be a very happy, happy day to be with Jesus and her family. She was a giving, friendly, hard-working, and caring person. She was born in Carroll County on June 23, 1926, to the late Oscar Lee and Cardelia White Surratt. Laura was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wytheville. Laura served as the owner and cosmetologist of Laura’s Salon of Beauty in Wytheville, Virginia for 52 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Howard Halsey and siblings, Emily Ogle, Leona Reece, Edgar, Foy, Jeff, and Giles Surratt. Survivors include her sister Marie McGee of Danville, VA; two sisters-in-law, Jewell Surratt of Radford; Joyce Surratt of Galax along with several special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Halsey's funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm prior to the service. Pastor Jonathon Hamman and Rev. Jeff Callahan are officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The family would like to thank Mary Grubb along with Dinah and Gary Pattison for their special friendship, kindness, and great times with Laura. In addition, the family would like to also thank Carilion New River Valley Hospice nurses Laura and Cindy, aide Kayla, music therapist Kelly and their massage therapist for the outstanding care and kindness shown to Laura. Lastly, the family thanks Carolyn Rhodes and Tammy Kemp for caring for Laura over the last many years of her life.
