Obituary of Kelsey Alanna Patton

Our Precious Kelsey Alanna Patton passed away on September 23, 2024. She was born on May 29, 2002. Kelsey was an amazing person. She was devoted to her family, her studies and her clients. Kelsey graduated from Fort Chiswell High School in 2020. She was in the top 10% of her class, a member of the three-time English Super MACC champion team, played the clarinet in the band, played basketball, and ran cross country and track. Kelsey went on to Radford University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, as well as minors in English and Psychology. Kelsey also graduated from the Radford Honors College after completing her capstone project on Hearing Loss in College Students and doing a study abroad in London. While at Radford University, Kelsey worked in the speech clinic, taught at the summer speech camp for children and was doing an externship at a nursing home this fall. She was scheduled to work at an elementary school in the spring. Kelsey would have graduated with a Masters degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in May of 2025. Kelsey was a talented writer and was publishing a book on-line. These writings were read by over 200,000 people and translated into 7 different languages. Kelsey was a very hard worker, a sweet soul and the most loving and empathic daughter, sister and friend. She was passionate about helping people, as well as football, music, politics, writing, traveling and adored her KPOP. Kelsey loved the beach, sunsets, and reading all kinds of books. She had a very witty sense of humor and always knew what to say to make you feel better. Even though she only lived a short 22 years, she will never be forgotten by her clients, family and friends. She lived her life dedicated to helping others. Kelsey was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother Elizabeth “Kathy” Patton. Kelsey is loved and will be missed by her parents Robbie and Michelle Patton, her sister Chloe Patton, her grandfather Ray Patton, and her grandmother Gladys Hughes. She is also survived by her uncles and aunts Rodney and Lynn Patton, Steve and Katie Hughes, and Melany Shepherd. Kelsey was close to her cousins, Courtney and John Baumgartner and Hannah, Haleigh, Mariah and Reed Tadlock, Cameron, Chandra and Cooper Patton, Chase and Laken Patton, Allison Hughes, Ben Hughes, Alie Hughes and Harrison Shepherd. Kelsey had many dear friends including Madison Hillenberg, Hanna Phipps, Anna Arnold, Grace Burke, Jacob Fitzgerald and Chris Matthews. A memorial service will be held at 7 P.M. Thursday, September 26 at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel and conducted by Pastor Hugh Matlock and Reverend Ray Bolen. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 P.M until service time; burial will be a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a scholarship at Radford University to honor Kelsey’s memory.
